🌍♻️ On 24 April, in celebration of Earth Day, a clean-up activity was organized at 📍 Vain Beach as part of the “Marine Litter Prevention in Sazani and Kune–Vain Islands” project, which is supported by Beyond Plastic Med – BeMed and implemented by Milieukontakt Albania and the Environmental and Territorial Management Institute.

This action also contributing to the wider national effort to keep Albania’s coastline clean and along with ETMI team, brought together a wide range of local actors, including the Administration of Protected Areas of Lezhë, the Municipality of Lezhë, social services, volunteers and other engaged participants, all joining efforts for a cleaner and healthier coastal environment. 🤝🌿

To cover the area effectively, participants were divided into groups working along the shoreline of Vain Beach and the area near the Drin Delta. 🧤🗑️ The clean-up near the Drin Delta was particularly challenging and sensitive, as significant amounts of litter had accumulated in difficult-to-reach areas, including water surfaces of the lagoon where direct access was not possible.🌊

Throughout the activity, large amounts of litter were collected, highlighting once again the scale of pollution affecting these valuable coastal and lagoon ecosystems, as well as the need for continued joint action and long-term prevention efforts. 📌

Activities like this remind us that protecting our coastline requires cooperation, commitment, and the active involvement of institutions, communities and citizens. 💙
