On 14 November, Environmental and Territorial Management Institute organized its first monitoring activity in Divjakë, carried out in collaboration with Bashkia Divjake, in the framework of the #JOINABLE project.
📍The selected monitoring site was located along the Divjakë coastline, an area known for its ecological importance but increasingly exposed to pressures from human activities.
🌊This activity brought together ETMI’s team and the municipality (both partners of Albania in the project) and our external experts, to observe and monitor the presence, types and quantities of litter according to the standardized beach litter monitoring protocol.
👉 The main objectives of the activity were:
➡To assess current waste levels in the area and identify the sources and pathways of litter,
➡To record the types and quantities of items found within a 100-meter transect,
➡To better understand how this pollution affects the surrounding coastal and marine environment.
Participants collaborated to collect, sort, and categorize the waste according to internationally recognized monitoring procedures. The number of collected items was 636 per 100meters. A total of 28.8 kg of waste was collected, specifically 17.04 kg of plastic items and 11.75 kg of other items, marking a high presence of plastic items in only 100meters.
