As part of the “Marine Litter Prevention in Sazani and Kune–Vain Islands” project, supported by Beyond Plastic Med – BeMed , Environmental and Territorial Management Institute organized a litter monitoring activity near the 📍 Kune-Vain area along the shoreline. This was done in collaboration with Milieukontakt Albania and the Community of Practice. The main aim was to collect information about the types and amounts of litter in the area, so we can better understand where the pollution comes from and how it affects the environment.
➡ Although the area had been cleaned just a week earlier by the local RAPA of Lezha, with ETMI also taking part, we still found a lot of litter. Around 15 kilograms of waste were collected in a 100meter length, including plastic and other types of waste.
➡ Volunteers and community members helped sort and record the waste into different categories, following the EU Joint List of Litter Categories. This helped us get a clearer view of the problems this area faces.
The activity not only supported research but also helped raise awareness among participants about the importance of reducing waste and protecting natural areas like Kune – Vain.
