ETMI, in partnership with the Municipality of Shkodër, has launched the implementation of the LAKE-CARE project – “Lake Shkodra Community Action for Restoration and Ecosystem Health”, part of the #EuroLakes project, funded by the European Union.

The project’s goal is to improve the ecological status of Lake Shkodra and create a sustainable, replicable model for lake restoration across Europe, through nature-based solutions (NBS) . The project will be implemented in the Albanian part of Lake Shkodra .

Through collaboration between institutions, experts and the community, the project is expected to bring concrete and lasting change for the lake and its residents:

Establishment of a Community of Practice (CoP) bringing together local stakeholders around a shared vision for the lake

Improved water quality through regular monitoring

Implementation of nature-based solutions: habitat restoration, eco-trails and birdwatching balconies

Increased local income through the development of eco-tourism
