⚡ Access to energy services is one of the dimensions assessed by the Multidimensional Energy Poverty Index (MEPI), closely linked to households’ ability to secure and afford the energy needed to meet their basic needs.

📊 The Assessment of the Multidimensional Energy Poverty Index in the Municipalities of Memaliaj and Selenicë identifies significant economic challenges related to household income, the share of income spent on energy, and difficulties in paying energy bills.

📌 Key findings of the study show that:

🧾 52.5% of surveyed households in Selenicë and 51.5% in Memaliaj reported between 1 and 5 delays in paying their energy bills over the past five years.

💶 63% of households in Memaliaj and 55.4% in Selenicë reported monthly household incomes below €300.

💡 86% of households in Selenicë and 85% in Memaliaj reported spending approximately 10–30% of their household income on energy bills.

📑 The importance of addressing these challenges is also reflected in the National Action Plan for Addressing Energy Poverty 2026–2030. Specifically, Action 4 provides for strengthening support mechanisms for vulnerable households, improving compensation schemes, and introducing measures to prevent and manage energy arrears.

🏠 The findings from Memaliaj and Selenicë help identify the economic barriers that limit access to energy, providing a valuable evidence base for shaping policies and support measures targeting the most vulnerable households.
